DATURA arborea

Description

Lush ornamental plant from South America with shrub, rarely arboreal, with partially woody and branched stem, which can easily exceed 3 meters in height. The large and oval leaves, pale green in color, persist on the plant only in hot climates. In the terminal part of the branches and axils of the leaves, between spring and autumn, large flowers develop which are tubular, pendulous, more or less fragrant, of various colors and, in some cases, even double. Due to the presence of powerful alkaloids, every part of the plant is poisonous and must be handled with caution.

Suggestions

Place this plant in fertile, fresh and light soils. It needs sunny or semi shaded positions and it must be sheltered from cold winds. You should protect it from winter frosts, placing it in pot. A spring sharp pruning could stimulate a better and a richer vegetative growth and an intense blooming.
