ZANTHEDESCHIA aethiopica (=Calla a.)

Description

Perennial herbaceous plant, consisting of an elongated rhizome from which beautiful dark green leaves develop up to one-meter-high, up to 25 cm long. Starting from the end of winter and until the beginning of summer, the plant produces flowers consisting of a yellow central part, called "spadix", and wrapped in a white part called "spathe" which can reach up to 20 cm. The flowers are pleasantly scented.

Suggestions

The plant can give good results both in pots and in the ground if a constant humidity of the soil is ensured during the vegetative period and if watering is reduced, and stopped, when flowers and leaves begin to die. It is important to place the rhizomes in fertile and well-drained soil, in coastal or indoor gardens where they will create elegant borders and shrubs.
