PHOTINIA x fraseri 'Nana'

Description

Rustic evergreen shrub, with a typical upright and very compact habit. Recent selection of Photinia x fraseri, it has a slow growth with a maximum height of 1.50-2.00 meters. Considerably branched from the base, it presents, on the thin vertical decorated stems, lanceolate leaves, smaller and rounder than those of Photinia x fraseri "Red Robin", of a bright dark green color and leathery appearance. In spring the new shoots and the young foliage appear of a characteristic bright red-purple color which enhances the flowering of this plant made up of tiny white 5-petalled flowers which are, in turn, gathered in showy, large and fragrant inflorescences.

Suggestions

Rustic plant that does not require special needs but a sunny or semi-shady position even if in the latter case its flowering will be less abundant. Although it is suitable for any type of soil, it prefers medium-textured soils, also rich in humus and free of water stagnation. Once established, it tolerates drought even if in the hottest and driest periods regular irrigations improve its general appearance. It tolerates cold well, even if intense and prolonged. Between autumn and vegetative growth, dry, damaged and disordered branches can be removed or the more vigorous stems shortened to promote growth and improve the thick and compact appearance of the plant. Good plant for pots and containers where it will be pruned in geometric shapes; in the ground it can be used to create low borders or colored bushes in the garden.
