GOMPHOSTIGMA virgatum

Description

Graceful evergreen shrub with a rapid tillering, native to South Africa. It has a typical shape of a pot and can grow maximum 1,5 m tall and 1 m large. Its thin, flexible and branched stems are woody at the base but with an herbaceous consistency in the apical part. Delicate, narrow and silvery leaves cover its stems equally greyish. From late spring and throughout the summer, the tops of branches fill up of many small white flowers rising from the axil of leaves.

Suggestions

Ensure it a sunny position and a well-drained but wet soil. In fact, even if this plant tolerates drought it's better to irrigate it regularly in the summer. At the end of winter a pruning, even if strong, could stimulate ramification and the next blooming. This could also improve the aspect of shrub. It's ideal as single specimen; in gardens it could be used together to other border plants with contrasting foliage and flowering.
