JASMINUM nitidum

Description

Perennial shrub or climbing plant, evergreen or semi-deciduous, which can reach till 4 metres of height. Coming from New Guinea, it is strongly branched from the base; its stems bring lance-shaped and opposed leaves, bright and of a dark green color, making the plant particularly attractive even when it is not in flower. From late spring to late autumn, it fills of numerous inflorescences on the terminal parts of branches. The white star-shaped flowers are fragrant and full of petals. The buds are equally decorative but of a pinkish color.

Suggestions

It needs a sunny or semi shaded position, and sheltered from cold winds. It needs fertile, wet and well drained soils. It tolerates drought, but growth and blooming are both supported by regular summer irrigations. It's ideal for pots which will be brought in sheltered places in case of frosts. In full ground, it can be used as a wintry bush or to cover railings and pergolas. in spring, you could make some light prunings in order to give the plant a more compact and ordered aspect.
