GREVILLEA ''Bronze Rambler''

Description

Evergreen bush, growing in a horizontal and prostate way. Native to Australia, it is the result of the crossing between GREVILLEA RIVULARIS and GREVILLEA POORINDA PETER. Excellent ground covering plant with a quite rapid growth, it can develop in a short time till covering an area of 4 meters with a maximum height of 30 meters. Branched from the base, it has old stems covered with a greyish bark, while the apices and all the new vegetation have a characteristic red-bronze color, thus its name. Leaves are leathery, deeply cut, dark green and with marked ribs on both surfaces. From early spring to late autumn, its flowers bloom. These are gathered in long inflorescences with the typical shape of a toothbrush. They are red, highlighted by the yellow-greenish pollen sacs.

Suggestions

Rustic and vigorous plant, it needs a very sunny position. It is suitable to any kind of soil, but it prefers the medium texture and the well-drained ones. After rooting it tolerates drought, even if in summer some irrigations could be useful to improve the foliage and support a richer blooming. It tolerates the frost if it is not deep and prolonged and if it is not associated to an high atmospheric and soil humidity. Between spring and summer perform some pruning to remove dead, damaged and messy branches and to shorten the most vigorous stems: this will be useful to achieve a next thicker and more compact flowering. An excellent plant for pots or big containers where it will show its soft hanging habit; in full ground it can be useful to cover wide areas and flowerbeds; it can be used for escarpments or at the base of trees and other shrubs, it can also be placed at the top of a wall from where it will hang very softly.
