BILLBERGIA nutans

Description

Evergreen herbaceous of small sizes in fact it doesn't grow more than 50 cm tall. It has long and thin leaves with thorny margins; they are also erect and arched, deep green and organized in a classic rose-shape. Bell shaped flowers have green petals with a blue border and flashy gold stamens and are gathered in inflorescences enclosed in flashy pink bracts.

Suggestions

It needs light and acid soils (based on peat, bark and perlite). Place the plant in presence of light, but it's better to avoid direct sun which could burn the leaves, especially during the hottest hours. In spring and summer, water the plant frequently, avoiding water stagnations. It benefits from liquid fertilizations which must be often performed in summer. It's a good houseplant and it's also perfect to be grown in pot. It can be grown outside only in mild climate areas where the lower temperatures never fall below 10°C.
