AGAVE tequilana

Description

This beautiful Agave, with a typical rose-shape, has long leaves of a glacous colour, hence the common name of Blue Agave. It reaches 2 meters in diameter and can easily be grown in pots, while the ground cultivation is possible only in warm climates, because this species is not frost resistant. In South America, tequila is produced distilling the fermented juice of this plant.

Suggestions

Ensure drained soils and sunny positions. It can be grown in pots. In summer it can stay outside, while in winter it must be brought in a sheltered place. Although it tolerates long period of droughts, in spring and summer sporadic irrigations can accelerate the growth and improve its aspect.
