YUCCA elephantipes

Description

Probably, it's one of the most popular and known Yucca plants and it has a shrubby habit. It's lignified at the bottom and with very branched stems. Leaves are weblike, leathery, pointed, bright green, with sharp edges and are gathered in tufts at the apex of stems. Flowers appear between spring and autumn, are white, fleshy and gathered in central inflorescences. It's a very ornamental plant; it can be used both in garden or as an houseplant. It's good for coastal areas but also for medium hills.

Suggestions

In order to avoid damages to the plant, you can collocate it in sunny or semi-shaded positions or in well drained and fertile soils. Spring waterings improve the growth of the plant, above all if it is kept in pot. Regular repottings are necessary because the plant is characterized by a very developped root system; for the same reason it's better not collocate it near houses or plumbings.
