OZOTHAMNUS rosmarinifolius

Description

Interessant large and evergreen bush which comes from Australia and Tasmania. It can reach 2 metres both in height and diameter. Full of numerous branches from the base, it has small deep green aromatic and needle-like leaves, similar to the rosemary ones. During the late spring, some umbrella inflorescences made of numerous small flowers arise from the apex of stems. In bud they are of a pink and purple color, while they turn white when hatching.

Suggestions

It prefers sunny locations and its soil must be dry and above all well drained: it does not tolerate water stagnation that can kill the plant in a short time. On the contrary, it tolerates drought, but sporadic irrigation can be useful in warmer periods. It also tolerates wind and salt, making it ideal for coastal gardens. It does not suffer from frosts if they are not intense and prolonged, however it is better to avoid exposure to cold winds. At the end of flowering, a light pruning may be useful to shorten some stems and to remove dry and damaged branches to give this plant a more compact and vigorous appearance and to make its subsequent flowering richer. Suitable for pots or large containers, in the ground it can be used as a single ornamental specimen or in association with other essences with contrasting foliage and flowering. It can also be used as a medium-high and very thick border.
