LAMPRANTHUS productus

Description

Coming from South Africa, it's an evergreen and succulent ground cover plant. It has a quick growth and can reach 30 cm of height. Its thin and branched stems run on the ground and are thickly covered with small juicy and green-grayish leaves having sometimes a bronze spot at the apex. From the end of winter and throughout the summer, the plant fills of daisy-like fuchsia flowers with a yellow center flowering during the brightest hours of the day: its blooming can be so much deep to completely cover the underlying foliage.

Suggestions

Not a very demanding plant, it needs a sunny position and its soil must be dry, poor, sandy and well drained: infact it suffers from water stagnations. This plant tolerates drought and high temperatures very well, as well as the salt. On the contrary, it doesn't tolerate intense and long lasting frosts, above all in case of high humidity. It could be grown in pot but it is ideal also in rock gardens or in association with to other succulent or cactaceae plants.
