GAZANIA rigens Del capo

Description

Graceful herbaceous plant, perennial and evergreen, with a ground cover, with a prolonged and fascinating flowering, native to southern Africa. The leaves, lanceolate and slightly leathery, glabrous, dark green on the upper page and greyish on the lower one, constitute a dense tuft and cover the short stoloniferous stems that branch off from it. The stems, orientating in every direction, cover the ground in a dense way, creating robust carpets on which, starting from spring and until the following autumn and rising slightly on thin stems, showy yellow or orange daisy-like corollas exhibit, sometimes with the base of the petals stained with black.

Suggestions

Rustic and vigorous plant, it tolerates drought but some sporadic irrigations in summer could improve the development. It needs a sunny or semi shaded position, a sandy and well-drained soil, otherwise even light water stagnations could kill the plant. This plant can also be used to create low borders in full ground or as ground cover in wide flowerbeds or at the base of trees and shrubs. It also suitable to growing both in coastal gardens and pot.
