CARISSA grandiflora (=C. macrocarpa)

Description

Evergreen shrub with thorny branches covered with glossy and leathery green leaves. The star-shaped flowers are white, solitary and very fragrant and give rise to egg-shaped red and edible fruits having the size and appearance of a plum, but with a slightly acid flavor. Fruits can be eaten fresh or used to produce jams and marmalades. This beautiful bush, with a slow growing and with a very stylish aspect, is ideal as an isolated specimen or to create original hedges, up to 3 meters tall.

It doesn't tolerate frost, so in the coldest areas it should be cultivated in pot which will be brought in sheltered places In winter. You should irrigate it sporadically, ensure a sunny positions and a well drained soil in order to obtain a greader development and blooming.
