DODONAEA viscosa

Evergreen shrub, sometimes small tree, with a quite vertical and fast growth bringing it till 3/4 metres of height. Well-branched from the base ; its leaves, like the willow ones, are of a particular purple red getting more intense during the colder seasons. in spring, it fills with flowers. They are of a greenish white color gathered in small bunches, followed by showy half spheres, winged and pink capsules, throughout the summer.

It's ideal to create ornamental, thick and compact hedges and must be collocated in sunny position and drained soils. It tolerates quite well both drought and sea wind so it is ideal for coastal gardens where the plant needs only some summer irrigations. It can also be grown in pot, so it will be brought in sheltered places in case of too cold.
