HEMEROCALLIS 'Stella de Oro'

Description

Wonderful hybrid of hemerocallis, herbaceous, perennial, with a deciduous foliage and rhizomatous roots which can reach maximum 40 cm of height. Leaves, gathered in very thick clumps, are web-like and of a bright green color. From late spring to winter (with a short break in summer) the plant shows its extraordinary and lasting blooming, made of showy deep yellow trumpets. These last ones are gathered in small inflorescences and supported by thin stems lifting themselves few centimetres on the mass of leaves. Fleshy and crispy petals, can be eaten raw, while buds can be fried.

Suggestions

It needs a sunny or semi shaded position as well as a rich, fertile, wet and medium textured soil. It tolerates drought, but in the summer this plant benefits from regular irrigations. It tolerates quite well temperatures a little bit below zero. It is ideal for pots or containers; it is also good for rock gardens, borders, scrubs or at the base of trees and shrubs. After quite a few years, it may need to root out, divide and plant again a part of the tuft in order to make the plant younger.
