GAURA lindheimeri

Description

This rustic and semi deciduous bush is characterized by small and stretched leaves, of a dark green color or red in some varieties, above all in autumn with the first cold. It can grow approximately 1 meter tall and in summer it produces a lot of stems stretching around the crown and bringing at the apex an ear that blossoms in a scalar way. Flowers can be white, pink or red according the variety, but the impact of a GAURA is spectacular whatever its color. It's a quite adaptable plant in fact it also blooms in pot. It is drought tolerant even if some irrigations improve its development. Some varieties, so-called dwarfs, have shorter spikes and a more compact and ordered aspect.

Suggestions

At the end of blooming (autumn) or before the vegetative regrowth (spring), make a light pruning to remove flower spikes and to cut the apex of branches: this will stimulate the crown thickening and the next blooming. Moreover, pruning can be used to model the plant shape. In open ground it tolerates drought quite well , while if it's grown in pot irrigate it regularly both in spring and summer. In full sun the plant has a more compact aspect.
