Evergreen shrub or small tree that can easily grow more than 3 m tall. It is characterized by long flexible and arched branches bearing small pointed green leaves and a rich spring-summer flowering composed of showy red cylindrical inflorescences, often repeated in autumn. It tolerates drought and salinity, less frosts above all if intense and prolonged.
