AEONIUM arboreum

Description

Fascinating cactus easy to be cultivated with rapid growth, native to North Africa and the Canary Islands, well adapted to the Mediterranean climate: in a short time, it can grow more than one meter tall and a little less large. Leaves, fleshy, elongated and with a rounded apex, are arranged as a “rosette" on top of swollen stems: as a whole, the plant can recall an unusual bouquet of green roses. Over the time, as the plant becomes more mature, and in any case always in spring, it may happen that a conical inflorescence rises from the heart of some rosettes formed by tiny long lasting yellowish daisies.

Suggestions

Give it a sunny or only partially shaded position, with any type of soil as long as it is well drained, it wont need anything else. Extremely resistant to even prolonged periods of drought, its beauty is not affected by saltiness of the coastal areas, a winter shelter is recommended in areas subject to frequent and lasting frosts. It is advisable to cut the inflorescences of the previous year in spring to favor the development of new branches. Whether inside pots on our terrace, veranda or balcony, alone or in the company of plants of the same nature, as well as in the open ground, for example among rocks, it will be perfect and dazzling in every season of the year, evocating images of holidays and relaxation with its exotic habit.
